Minister Stresses Adoption of Strategic Plan for Industrial Development

TEHRAN, July 1 (Mehr News Agency) -- Minister of Industries and Mines Is’haq Jahangiri said on Tuesday that any stoppage or slow progress in industrial reforms would result in economic instability in the country.

 

 

Speaking at a seminar on industry and mines Jahangiri said to achieve industrial development targets the government should adopt a strategic plan in accordance with other economic policies.

 

He said the ministry under his portfolio is the only ministry which has the responsibility to devise a strategic plan for industrial policy for the next twenty years. He said the plan will be presented to the president (Khatami) today. 

 

He said consumers have been given the right of choice in selecting their favorite goods in the new government policy to remove import restrictions.

 

By removing the import hurdels the quality of domestic production will also increase, the minister noted.

 

He said 65 percent of non-oil exports in the last Iranian year (ending March 21) consisted of industrial and mining products, which nearly met the set targets in the Third Development Plan.

 

He put the average growth of industrial investments at 12.5 percent in years 1999 and 2000 compared with 9 percent general growth in the country.

 

The minister said that 433,000 jobs were created in the mining and industrial sector.
